GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- After-school programming in the Grand Rapids Public Schools district is getting a boost from the Michigan Department of Education, in the form of a $12.15 million grant.

The grant will help fund the LOOP after-school program, which offers GRPS students academic help and other activities. The funding will support the following sites for five years:

  • Brookside Elementary
  • Cesar E. Chavez Elementary
  • East Leonard Elementary
  • Southwest Community Campus
  • Shawmut Hills Elementary
  • Burton Elementary
  • Campus Elementary
  • Aberdeen School
  • Harrison Park School
  • Alger Middle School
  • University Prep Academy
  • CA Frost Environmental Science Academy
  • North Park Montessori
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Academy
  • Sherwood Park Global Studies Academy
  • Gerald R. Ford Academic Center
  • Grand Rapids Montessori
  • Dickinson School

The district says information and sign-up forms for the free program will be available in September.
