MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- A fawn that was trapped in the rocks along the Muskegon Lake channel is now safe from harm.
Firefighters were called to Muskegon State Park to rescue the baby deer, who got stuck Wednesday while swimming across the channel.
The Muskegon Fire Department took a rescue boat out to free the fawn. Then they wrapped the animal in a blanket during its ride back to land.
"We had units available at the time and we could do it without putting any of our people of equipment in danger," said Muskegon Fire Battalion Chief Gordon Cole. "We were able to get out and get him out of the water."
When the firefighters released the fawn, it ran off.
They hope the fawn will find its mother on its own.
