BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Westbound M-6 is closed just east of Byron Center Ave. because of a crash.

It happened shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday on M-6 just west of Byron Center Avenue SW.

The WZZM 13 News crew on the scene says it appears the car went airborne off a snowbank near the highway and hit a billboard pole in the median of M-6.

Emergency scanner traffic indicates the driver of the car was trapped for some time. The driver was then flown to the hospital via an AeroMed helicopter.

The car was headed westbound on M-6 when the crash occurred.
