(WZZM) -- WZZM 13 has been awarded three 2014 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.
Hannah Saunders won her first Murrow award for her WZZM 13 Watchdog investigation on panhandlers around West Michigan. At the center of her piece was a Grand Rapids man panhandling while claiming he was a military veteran, when in fact, he was just using the claim to illicit more donations.
Brent Ashcroft, along with Director of Photography, Andy Sugden received awards for the story on Alton Voss, the Michigan football star who became addicted to prescription drugs after finishing high school in Florida and being recruited by top football colleges around the country. After a run-in with the law in Ottawa County and help from local organizations, Voss turned his life around and was able to star again in football with the Grand Valley State Lakers.
Brent was also given a Best Writing Award for his compilation of work, including the Anniversary of the Disappearance of Deanie Peters and Expressive Art and Detention Students.
