BATTLE CREEK (Battle Creek Enquirer) -- Calhoun County Sheriff Department deputies are no longer searching for an inmate trusty who walked away from the county jail in Battle Creek about 2 p.m. Thursday.
Sheriff Matt Saxton said Brad L. Wolfinger, 40, of Coldwater, was working in the garage of the jail when he left. He changed into dark shorts and a dark shirt and rode away on a bicycle, Saxton said. Deputies reviewed video tape and saw Wolfinger leave riding a BMX bike or small mountain bike.
He was picked up about 6:30 pm at the home of his father in Colon. Wolfinger apparently called his wife who then contacted police. He's now facing additional charges of escape and larceny and police are investigating whether anyone helped him.
He was serving a sentence for larceny and was scheduled to be released on Dec. 11.
Saxton said he had been working in the garage, washing and maintaining cars, since March and had been washing cars in the parking lot before leaving.
Saxton said Wolfinger was served divorce papers Wednesday. Deputies in Calhoun County worked with Branch County deputies in the search.
