EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- Police say a suspicious package at East Grand Rapids High School turned out not to be dangerous. Authorities evacuated the campus Friday morning after custodial staff found the package inside the west portion of the building.
The Michigan State Police bomb squad performed an x-ray examination of the package and conducted a sweep of the building with bomb-sniffing dogs.
The high school was closed and athletic practices were canceled or moved to other locations. The pool was also closed.
A text was sent to parents shortly after 11 a.m. that read:
"EGR High School is closed today 8/15/14. If your child has a practice or event-please contact their coach or supervisor for further info."
Friday afternoon, Superintendent Dr. Sara Magaña Shubel sent parents a letter saying police are still investigating, since security camera footage shows an unspecified number of people getting into the building overnight and leaving the package.
