GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- It wasn't a happy birthday for a man who allegedly held up a Grand Rapids credit union, fled into Mercy Health Saint Mary's hospital, and held police at bay.

David Saunders was charged Wednesday afternoon with bank robbery and is being held on a $250,000 bond. Wednesday is also Saunders' 23rd birthday.

Saunders allegedly held up the Lake Michigan Credit Union at Mercy Health Saint Mary's hospital Monday afternoon and escaped through the hospital.

Grand Rapids police found Saunders at a home on Grand Avenue NE and arrested him after a standoff Tuesday night.
