GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- For the first time since 1950, Brazil is playing host to the World Cup this year.
The world's biggest soccer event has captured the attention of soccer fans everywhere, including at the SpeakEZ Lounge in Grand Rapids.
Among the many fans were organizers from the Grand Rapids Football Club, which is trying to bring the a minor league soccer team to the city.
We talked to the owner of the SpeakEZ about Thursday's turnout.
Eric Albertson said, "This is the World Cup, so a lot of people tend to pay attention once every four years, but the group that's in here today -- they know the game really well. We have true fans in here, that's what makes it really fun."
As for the tournament, it started badly for the host country Brazil, when one of their players kicked the ball past their own goalie.
But Brazil came back to beat Croatia, 3-1.
Team USA doesn't play until Monday, when the squad takes on the team from Ghana.
