SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (WZZM) - The Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Van Buren County has notified the state and public of an oil leak Thursday evening.

In an official posting, officials at the plant say that about 6:30pm Thursday an oil leak was discovered "on EX-07 Safeguards Transformer 1-1" and oil sprayed outside the transformer containment berm. Approximately 70 gallons of oil spilled, but officials say that it was not spilled into any surface water and also didn't have a drain path to any surface water.

The 70 gallons were greater than the reporting requirements, so the state's Pollution Emergency Alert System and Van Buren County were notified.
