MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- 34 ladies from around the state are competing for the tiara and title of Miss Michigan in downtown Muskegon. Thursday afternoon, the ladies held their final rehearsal before the on stage competition starts.
Every June for the past 65 years, the event has been creating a big economic impact around the city.
"I do get several calls during the year, and you know I am not from Muskegon, but it is a wonderful city and has a lot to offer, it truly does," said Shelley Taylor of the Miss Michigan scholarship pageant.
That's one reason other communities and venues around the state continue to try and lure the event away from Muskegon.
The event will continue Friday and Saturday at the Fraunthal Theater.
