CANON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- The elderly driver of a car that rear-ended a Rockford school bus Monday afternoon has died.

The accident happened just before 4 p.m. on Cannonsburg Road near Dun Robin Drive NW.

Kent County Sheriff's investigators say 86-year-old Ione Potter of Cannonsburg was east bound on Cannonsburg Road when her vehicle collided with a Rockford Public School bus.

There were 11 children on the bus at the time but no one was hurt. A different school bus was brought to take the children home.

Potter was found unconscious and slumped over the steering wheel, according to scanner dispatch reports. It's unclear if a medical condition led to the crash.

Investigators say speed and alcohol did not contribute to the crash.
