IONIA, Mich. (WZZM) -- Voters in Ionia County are being asked to approve a new millage next week to help pay for road improvements.

County officials say, of the 83 counties in Michigan, Ionia County's roads are in the second-worst condition.

We're told the roads require more than $45 million in repair work.

The 2-mill proposal would last for six years and provide a little more than $3 million a year.

County officials say if it's passed, they will prioritize the projects and fix the most important roads first.

The primary election is on Tuesday, August 5.
