AHL Western Semifinals Game 3 - Griffins 5, Stars 2


GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Tuesday was an eventful night for the Griffins' Tomas Jurco.

Three goals, a fight and most importantly, a win.

Jurco's hat trick led the Grand Rapids Griffins to a 5-2 win over the Texas Stars in Game 3 of the AHL's Western Conference semifinals. The Griffins now trail the series 2-1.

Jurco opened the scoring in the first period with a wrap around goal to give Grand Rapids its first lead of the series.

Andreij Nestrasil and Teemu Pulkkinen also scored as the Griffins took a 5-0 lead to the second intermission.

Texas answered with a pair of third period goals from Mike Hedden and Branden Ranford.

Jurco and the Stars' Curtis McKenzie were involved in a scuffle during the game's final minute.

Petr Mrazek made 32 saves for the Griffins who are looking to rally from a 2-0 playoff series deficit for the first time in franchise history.

Game 4 is Wednesday night at Van Andel Arena.
